Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT) for Siblings
Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT) helps adult siblings of people with disabilities build resilience and struggle less with the difficult feelings and events in our lives.
Siblings Canada hosts ACT workshops and an ACT Peer Learning Group for workshop alumni.
The ACT for Siblings workshops are hosted in partnership with Queen’s University, Siblings Canada and the Canadian Centre for Caregiving Excellence.
The workshops are held virtually twice a year, usually in the fall and the spring. During these workshops we seek, through ACT, to help siblings struggle less with difficult things in their lives and connect with things that are most important in a loving and respectful way. With an introduction to the concept of mindfulness, ACT does not attempt to directly change or stop unwanted thoughts or feelings, but to develop a new mindful relationship with those experiences that can free a person up to being open, and to take action consistent with what they care about.
The workshops run for six weeks and each weekly session is two hours long.
If you have questions or you think you might be interested in ACT and would like to join our waiting list, you can let us know by emailing
